COLONIZATION IN THE PHILIPPINES

THE COLONY AND THE COLONIZER

The Philippines was called ''PEARL OF THE EAST''. It was blessed with rich natural resources. And so, more powerful countries tried to colonize us. There are three countries that colonized our nation. The first was the Spain.  It was followed by Japan and we was saved by America. The hospitality of the Filipinos was used  by the colonizers to invade us. The first colonizer was the Spain. They governed us for 333 years. And that was the beginning of the suffering of the Filipinos.

Spaniards introduced us the Christianity. That religion was their primary tool to colonize us. Then,  Christianity was embraced by the Filipinos. And so, they succeeded in colonizing us. Their governance was unlawful. They called us "INDIOS' which means idiot. They didn't gave us proper education. They develop laws that benefits only the Spaniards. But even if they didn't treat us a people, we are lucky for having our heroes. The ones who sacrificed their lives in order for us to have freedom.

Next colonizer was Japan. For me they are the worst colonizer of our country. Our life became more harder under the Japanese occupation. Thanks to America who saved us. Japan and America was opposing country. So a war existed. We are so affected. America won and ruled us. They gave our freedom, but if we analyze., we are standing in the shadow of America until now. We are not free at all.
